Changes to the HUBZone Program Go Into Effect Today

The final rule issued by the Small Business Administration (SBA) on November 26, 2019 that implement changes to the Historically Underutilized Business Zone (HUBZone) program goes into effect today. If you’ve been unable to meet the requirements for HUBZone certification in the past, it’s not likely that this new rule will change that, but these changes should make it easier for companies to maintain their HUBZone status once they become certified. Receipts-Based Small Business Size Standards Adjusted for Inflation

Earlier this year, the Small Business Administration (SBA) increased the receipts-based business size standards for 518 industries. These adjustments were made to account for inflation that has occurred since the last adjustment in 2014. The SBA will continue to review size standards every five years, as mandated by the Small Business Jobs Act of 2010. Flathead County’s HUBZone Status Extended!

Flathead County’s HUBZone designation status was scheduled to sunset on July 31st, 2018, but the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2018 that was signed by President Trump on December 12, 2017, extended Flathead County’s HUBZone designation until December 31st, 2021. This is excellent news for area contractors that are currently HUBZone certified as well as those that have been considering making an application for certification.
